Joyce Wanjala Jay ,the former Taita Taveta Woman Representative who was also known as a flower girl due to her good looks has she has failed to pick the pieces and struggling to make ends meet after losing her seat .
Responding to a tweet on an Ex-MCA who is seeking a driver’s job , she wrote emotional tweets on how she was bruised by her experience. She disclosed that she had to sell the only vehicle she had since 2013 in order to pay debts of money that she used to either support empowerment projects or paid school fees.
” When I lost I sold the only vehicle I had since 2013 in order to pay debts of money that I used to either support empowerment projects or paid school fees. I still haven’t paid them all. I couldn’t afford to live a luxurious life because I was serving people in marginalized areas,” she said .
Despite enjoying the camaraderie of the house , she says politicians are forced into debts in order to meet their financial demands from the people they serve and woe unto them if they don’t dish out money as they will be mocked .
” Some used to ask how can I be broke and yet I’m an elected leader “kwani wewe sio mjanja” Which means they already expect you to be corrupt. I couldn’t even meet my own needs. I’m nt talking of handouts but genuine problems like food, Hospital bills, burials, school fees etc
I had taken a mortgage which was to be paid within the 4 years so I had to “tighten my belt”. On the ground U still have to stay “relevant” as a leader by contributing to all the harambes which could be over 200k every other weekend..that means all you have to do is borrow money ” she wrote .
Lay lost her senatorial bid in the 2017 elections .
I will not ridicule him because if you don’t have any other income from your investments before going into politics then you become broke. It’s worse after losing a seat. You can’t get rich by being a politician not unless you steal public money and get involved in corrupt deals https://t.co/mdVrXdhTxy
